On 14th October 2019 four orangutans – Fatimah, Cut Keke, Punti and Koko – were transferred to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme’s Reintroduction site in Jantho Aceh. They are finally feeling freedom after yearsspent rehabilitating and preparing for their return to the wild.
Fatimah, a seven year old femaleorangutan was rescued from Kampong Baro Village, Idie Rayuek village, Aceh province in July 2018. When she first arrived at our Quarantine and Rehabilitation Centre was found to be malnourished. After completing herrehabilitation process really well now she is ready for life in the wild!

Cut Keke, a five-year old femaleorangutan was rescued from an illegal pet trader in Langsa City, Aceh province, in 2016. She was thought to be two years old when she first arrived at our Quarantine and Rehabilitation Centre. She has been at the Centre for more than 3 years undergoing her rehabilitation process and she is now ready to get her freedom in the real forest!

Punti, a twelve year old female orangutan, was rescued from farmland in Peurlak, East Aceh, in October 2018. When she first arrived at our Quarantine and Rehabilitation Centre we found two bullets in her body and she also showed traumatic behavior. Punti underwent her rehabilitation process well and she is now ready for her freedom!

Koko is a five and a half year old female orangutan. She was confiscated from an illegal trader in Langsa, Aceh in 2015. After four years of rehabilitation, she is finally ready for a new life in the rainforest.

At their new forest home in Jantho they are temporarily housed in an adaptation cage, deep in the heart of the rainforest. Once settled, they will at last released and begin their new lives in their forest home!
